48-year-old Shilok lives in Zhaxigang Village, Dagze District, Lhasa City. He is a representative inheritor of the autonomous region-level intangible cultural heritage "Lhasa Cloth Mask Making Skills".

According to Shilok, mask making dates back to the 7th century AD and is widely used in traditional Tibetan opera performances and Shoton festivals. Making a mask is no easy task, including more than a dozen processes including carving, layering, air-drying and painting, which takes more than 10 days to complete.
