Recently, Princess Jincheng, the large-scale Amdo Tibetan opera, composed by the Tibetan Opera Troupe of Qinghai Province, completed its Beijing debut at the Mei Lanfang Theatre. This marks the first time the play was performed outside its birthplace, Qinghai Province.
The opera focuses on Princess Jincheng, the second princess of the Tang Dynasty to enter Xizang. The creative team carefully selected her important experiences, including her childhood in troubled times, her journey of traveling west to Xizang, the misfortunes she faced during her peace-making marriage, her efforts promoting the alliance, her role in spreading the Tang Dynasty’s advanced knowledge, and her actions dealing with the plague across the region. Through the artistic presentation of Princess Jincheng’s life experience, the history of ethnic communication, exchange, and integration is shown.
