April marks the best season for tree planting in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. In recent days, members of the religious community in the prefecture have actively embraced the call for green development by engaging in voluntary tree planting initiatives this spring. They have planted nearly 50,000 trees.
It is understood that all the monasteries in the prefecture participated in voluntary tree-planting activities this spring. Each monastery, in accordance with local conditions, either engaged in tree planting activities alongside residents or worked on enhancing the greenery of their temple environments. At designated planting sites, monks and nuns selected tree seedlings well-suited for growth in alpine regions, including species such as pine, cypress, black locust, willow, and larch. They nurtured green aspirations by meticulously digging pits, positioning the seedlings upright, backfilling with soil, and watering them.
In Maerkang County, monks from Gengda Monastery took special care of their young trees. "We plant trees annually," they shared, “hoping these efforts will bless the land and sustain the ecosystem. This practice is also a form of spiritual cultivation.”
